Where to stay in Breuil-Cervinia

Set at 2,050 metres at the foot of the Matterhorn — the famous rock pyramid rising 4,478 metres on the border with Switzerland — Breuil-Cervinia is one of Italy’s most renowned mountain resorts. Part of the municipality of Valtournenche, it is a modern, largely pedestrian resort, perfect both for high-altitude skiing in winter and for hiking and summer glacier skiing.

Where to stay

The pedestrian centre, around the shopping streets and the cable car square, is ideal for having lifts, restaurants and services within reach. Those who put skiing first choose properties close to the lifts, often with direct access to the slopes, while towards Valtournenche you’ll find quieter, better-value options that are still within the skiable domain. The choice ranges from charming hotels to small family-run inns, chalets with a spa and apartments.

Skiing and summer

In winter Cervinia is part of the Cervino Ski Paradise, an international ski area connected slope-to-slope with Swiss Zermatt, with over 300 km of pistes for all levels. In summer it becomes a base for trekking — such as the hike to the Cime Bianche Lakes — and mountain biking, and it’s one of the few resorts where you can ski even in summer, on the Plateau Rosà glacier.
