Where to stay in Champoluc, at the foot of Monte Rosa

Champoluc is the largest centre in the municipality of Ayas and one of the most loved mountain destinations in the Aosta Valley. Set at around 1,570 metres in the green Val d’Ayas, it’s dominated by the glaciers of Monte Rosa, the second-highest peak in Europe. It’s a lively destination all year round: in winter thanks to the great Monterosa Ski carousel, in summer for hiking, nature and traditional villages. Choosing where to stay in Champoluc means having the lifts and trails within reach, in an authentic alpine atmosphere.

The areas and hamlets

The centre of Champoluc is the most convenient choice, close to the Crest gondola, shops and restaurants. Frachey, higher up towards the head of the valley, is ideal for those who want to be even closer to the high slopes. All around you’ll find charming hamlets and villages, such as the Walser village of Mascognaz, compact and silent, or the spots towards Antagnod, often with gentler rates.

What makes Champoluc special

Champoluc is the heart of the Monterosa Ski area, which links the three valleys of Ayas, Gressoney and Valsesia ski-in/ski-out with a single ski pass: one of the largest carousels in the Alps, also famous for off-piste. In summer the Val d’Ayas offers hikes for every level, mountain biking and the Walser tradition, with its characteristic rascard in wood and stone. The properties gathered here range from charming hotels with spas to family-run bed & breakfasts, selected for quality and location.
