Where to stay in Fiuggi

Fiuggi occupies two different levels on the slopes of the Ernici mountains: the historic village at 747 metres, the spa quarter at 621, among chestnut woods. Its reputation rests on the mineral waters that rise in the area, known and used since the Middle Ages, around which a genuine spa town developed from the early twentieth century.

The two Fiuggis

The town has two distinct identities. Fiuggi Città is the medieval core perched on the hill, with narrow lanes, Piazza Trento e Trieste and an urban layout that has stayed compact. Fiuggi Fonte, lower down, grew around the springs from the first establishment of 1905: in 1911 the town, until then Anticoli di Campagna, took its present name, and in 1913 the Palazzo della Fonte opened. Here are the two thermal parks, the Fonte Bonifacio VIII — redesigned by Luigi Moretti between 1967 and 1969, of which the original Liberty entrance survives — and the Fonte Anticolana. Choosing between the two areas changes the kind of stay: quieter and more contained above, more wellness-oriented below.

Nearby and when to go

The spa season runs from April to October, when the establishments are fully operating; summer remains the busiest period, helped by the mild climate. Around the town open Ciociaria and the Ernici mountains, with the abbeys of Casamari and Trisulti less than an hour away, while Frosinone is the nearest urban reference point. Rome is a little over an hour by car, which makes Fiuggi a possible base for anyone wanting to alternate spa days with city visits.
