Grand Hotel Sestriere

The Grand Hotel Sestriere is a family-run 4-star property in the heart of Sestriere, a well-known Piedmont resort for winter sports and an Olympic alpine skiing venue. The building stands out for its carved wood interiors typical of alpine architecture and for a refined atmosphere that has, over the years, attracted attention from publications such as Vanity Fair Italia and Bell’Italia.

The property is designed for both families and couples and sports enthusiasts: the Superior rooms and Junior Suites offer panoramic balconies overlooking the Olympic ski slopes, while the larger suites, up to 50 sqm, feature a hydromassage tub and, in some cases, a fireplace. The wellness centre offers massages, face and body treatments, a sauna and a Turkish bath, while the wine cellar holds a selection of over 2,000 wine labels.

The in-house restaurant alternates traditional Piedmontese dishes with more contemporary options, including menus for athletes in training. Guests have particularly appreciated the location, rated 8.8 by recent guests, and find the property a convenient reference point for accessing the lifts of the Via Lattea ski area.

Room types

The rooms at the Grand Hotel Sestriere range from simpler types, such as the Standard with single beds, to superior accommodations designed for those seeking more space and extra amenities. All rooms have a private bathroom, soundproofed walls and a flat-screen TV with cable channels, along with the mountain views that characterise most of the property’s accommodations.

Moving up in category, you’ll find the Superior Room and the Superior Triple, both with a hydromassage tub and balcony, up to the most exclusive suites – Deluxe, King and Presidential – which reach 50 sqm and include a separate living area, a sofa bed and, in some cases, a fireplace. These larger options are ideal for families or small groups seeking more privacy, while the classic double rooms remain the best choice for couples looking for essential comfort just steps from the slopes.

Location & what to see

The Grand Hotel Sestriere is located on Via Assietta, in the heart of the town of the same name, at about 2,035 metres above sea level on the Sestriere Pass, a historic route connecting Val di Susa and Val Chisone. The area is typical of alpine towns built for ski tourism, with shops, restaurants and lifts just steps from the property: the restaurant La Vineria del Colle is practically at the door, just 5 metres away, while Truber and Marbì are located 50 and 150 metres away respectively.

Those arriving by train can rely on Oulx-Cesana-Claviere-Sestriere station, about 9 km away, well connected to Turin. The Sestriere Pass mountain is practically at the hotel’s exit, 500 metres away, while Monte Fraiteve, which rises above 2,700 metres, is just 2.4 km away and can be reached via the local lifts. For those who enjoy walking, the Church of San Restituto is 2.7 km away, and the Queyras Natural Park, across the border in France, is about 12 km away.

In winter, the Via Lattea ski area, of which Sestriere is one of the main hubs, offers dozens of kilometres of slopes that hosted the Turin 2006 Olympic races. In summer, the same area becomes an ideal terrain for mountain biking and hiking, with trails leading towards the forests of Champlas-Colle Sestriere, 7 km away, or towards the Jardin Dla Tour urban park, about 8 km away. The central location makes the hotel a good base both for skiers and for those visiting the area during the warmer season.
