Location & what to see

Hotel Boston sits on the Stresa waterfront, in the part of town closest to the shores of Lake Maggiore, just 100 metres from the water and a five-minute walk from the heart of the old town, with its pedestrian streets, boutiques and cafés overlooking the lake. Walking along the waterfront, you can easily reach the boat pier, the public gardens and the Art Nouveau villas that characterise Stresa’s lakefront, making the area a convenient base for exploring much of the town centre on foot. The area is quiet yet central, frequented both by holidaymakers and by those travelling for work towards the towns of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area.

Stresa railway station, served by the line connecting Milan to the Simplon, is about 250 metres from the hotel and can be reached in a few minutes on foot. The marina from which boats depart for the Borromean Islands — Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori and Isola Madre — is just 500 metres away. For those arriving by car or plane, Milan Malpensa Airport is about 29 km away, while Baveno, with its own train station, is 3.7 km away.

Nearby you can visit Villa Pallavicino Park, 1.5 km away, with its botanical gardens and free-roaming animals, and the Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto in Verbania, about 5 km further north, among the most celebrated in Italy for its collections of exotic plants. Mountain lovers can take the Mottarone cable car, which departs from Stresa itself, reaching over 1,400 metres in altitude with views over the lakes and, on clearer days, the Alps. In summer the lake is well suited to boat trips, swimming and water sports, while in winter excursions move inland, as far as Val Grande National Park, about 9 km away, one of the largest wilderness areas in the Italian Alps.
