Kandlerhof is a bed and breakfast made up of independent apartments in the Untermagdalena area of Bolzano, just minutes from the city’s airport and historic centre.
Each unit has a private entrance, air conditioning, soundproofed walls and a full kitchen with hob, fridge, dishwasher and utensils for preparing meals independently. The private terraces offer views of the mountains or the city, while the interiors combine a sleeping area, living room and private bathroom with courtesy set and bidet. The property is designed for those seeking the independence of an apartment without giving up the typical services of hospitality.
The location, close to local restaurants such as Steidlerhof and Rittnerhof, and within walking distance of the railway station, makes Kandlerhof a practical base both for those visiting Bolzano for work and for those wanting to head towards the surrounding mountains. Guests particularly appreciate the quiet of the area and the availability of free private parking, convenient for those arriving by car who then want to explore the neighbouring valleys during the day.

Kandlerhof offers four types of apartment, two with mountain views and two with city views, all of similar size between 50 and 55 m² and accommodating up to 3-4 people. Each unit has an independent entrance, air conditioning, soundproofed walls and a full kitchen with hob, fridge and dishwasher, as well as a private terrace and a bathroom with bidet and courtesy set.
The main differences concern the layout of the spaces and the bathroom fittings: some apartments separate the bedroom from the living room, others combine them into a single space with a sofa bed, while one type stands out for having a bathtub instead of just a shower. The combination of a double bed and sofa bed makes these apartments versatile for both couples and small groups or families wanting more space.
The largest in the property alongside its twin of the same size, this 55 m² apartment separates the bedroom from the living room with a sofa bed, offering greater privacy compared to the single-space units. The terrace overlooks the surrounding mountains and the private bathroom includes a shower and bidet.
Compared to the first mountain-view apartment, this 50 m² unit has the bedroom and living room in a single space but accommodates up to 4 people, making it the most suitable choice for small groups. Here too, a terrace with mountain views and a bathroom with shower and bidet.
Among the city-view units, this is the largest, with 55 m² available and a large double bed paired with a sofa bed. The private bathroom has a shower and bidet, while the terrace lets you enjoy the rooftops of Bolzano.
The only one of the four types to have a bathtub in addition to the shower, this 50 m² city-view unit is suited to those who prefer a more complete bathroom. An extra-large double bed and sofa bed complete the sleeping area’s furnishings.
Kandlerhof provides free private parking, much appreciated by those arriving by car to visit Bolzano and the surrounding valleys, and free WiFi throughout the property. The private terraces, some with outdoor furniture and an outdoor dining area, allow guests to enjoy the mountain or city views independently.
Every apartment is air-conditioned and soundproofed, with an independent entrance and private check-in, useful for those seeking flexibility in arrival times. The property also offers solutions designed for allergic guests, an in-room safe and central heating.
As for dining, the apartments are equipped with a kettle or coffee machine, while wine or champagne is available on request. Each unit has a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and internet connection, making the stay comfortable even for extended periods.
Kandlerhof is located in the Untermagdalena area, a quiet residential part of Bolzano on the outskirts of the city, where houses alternate with vegetable gardens and small cultivated plots, away from the traffic of the centre but easily reachable in just a few minutes. The Kandlerhof restaurant is practically right outside, just 7 metres away, while Steidlerhof is 150 metres away and Rittnerhof about 600 metres away: three useful options for those who don’t want to travel far for dinner.
Bolzano’s railway station is about 1.2 km away, convenient for those wanting to travel towards Merano or other locations in the province, while Bolzano Airport is about 5 km away. The historic centre, with its arcaded streets and main museums, is just over 1.5-2 km away: here you’ll find the archaeological museum dedicated to Ötzi the Iceman, 1.7 km away, and the Museion of contemporary art, 1.9 km away.
For mountain lovers, the Sciliar massif is visible and reachable in less than 6 km, a destination for summer hikes and walks with views of the Dolomites, while the Messner Mountain Museum Firmian, set up in Castel Firmiano, is about 5 km away and tells the story of mountaineering through the artefacts collected by Reinhold Messner. In winter the city becomes a starting point for the Alpe di Siusi and Val Gardena ski lifts, while in summer excursions in the surrounding area and visits to the local botanical gardens prevail.
Reviews particularly reward cleanliness and comfort, both with maximum scores, along with staff rated almost at the top. The location is also highly appreciated, particularly by couples, while the value for money remains at very high levels despite being the lowest score among the categories.
