Getting around without a car is easy: the Grottoes of Catullus, a Roman archaeological site at the tip of the peninsula, are about 950 metres away, while the Sirmione Thermal Baths, with their sulphurous thermal waters, are 3.6 km away. Desenzano del Garda-Sirmione railway station, on the Milan-Venice line, is about 6 km away, and Verona-Villafranca Airport can be reached by car in about 30 minutes (31 km). The historic centre is closed to private traffic, so it’s best to leave the car in the outer car parks and continue on foot.
Sirmione is one of the most popular destinations on Lake Garda: in summer you can rent pedal boats and boats to explore the lake, take trips to Desenzano or Peschiera del Garda, or visit the nearby Gardaland park. In autumn and winter the town becomes quieter and is well suited to walks along the lakefront and visits to the castle and the thermal baths, open all year round thanks to the natural thermal waters.
