Pensione Sorriso is a 2-star hotel in Vernazza, in the Cinque Terre, about 300 metres from the village beach and just steps from the local train station. The entirely non-smoking property has a garden, terrace, common room and an in-house restaurant, plus a bar for a drink with a view.
The rooms, simple and bright, are equipped with a wardrobe and mostly offer a private bathroom with shower; some room types have a balcony with a view of the village or a city view, and air conditioning is present in the more recently renovated options. A room with shared bathroom remains the most affordable option for those seeking a basic stay.
Buffet breakfast is served every morning, and pets are allowed with a possible surcharge. The location, right in the heart of Vernazza, is particularly appreciated by couples, who rate it very highly: from here the panoramic trails of the Cinque Terre and the nearby villages can be reached on foot, making the pensione a practical base for exploring the coast without a car.

Pensione Sorriso offers three types of double room, all simply furnished and designed for those who spend the day out, between trails and beach. Each room comes with a wardrobe and a French double bed, while the size, the presence of a balcony and the type of bathroom vary: two options include a private bathroom with shower, while one has shared facilities with a courtesy set and hairdryer.
The main difference between the rooms concerns the view and outdoor spaces: the Double Room with Balcony is the largest, with a city view and private outlook, while the other two options, more compact, stand out for air conditioning or for a shared outdoor dining area with garden furniture. All are located within the property, just steps from the centre of Vernazza.
The largest of the three room types, at 14 sqm, with a private balcony and city view. Equipped with air conditioning, wardrobe and private bathroom with shower, it’s the ideal choice for those who want to enjoy some time outdoors looking over the rooftops of Vernazza.
The most affordable option at the pensione, with a shared bathroom equipped with a courtesy set and hairdryer. It has a wardrobe, tiled flooring and access to an outdoor dining area with garden furniture shared with other guests.
Compact like the previous room but with a private bathroom equipped with shower and hairdryer, plus air conditioning and a wardrobe. It’s the only room, besides the one with shared bathroom, to offer standalone air conditioning at the same size.
Pensione Sorriso offers guests several common areas designed for relaxing after a day on the Cinque Terre trails: garden, sun terrace with sunbeds and loungers, common room with TV area and an outdoor dining area with outdoor furniture. The property is entirely non-smoking, with dedicated smoking areas outside, and offers daily housekeeping, luggage storage and a safe.
On the dining front, the pensione has an in-house restaurant, a bar and a snack bar, as well as the option of having breakfast directly in the room. A shuttle service is also available, useful for those arriving with heavy luggage in the pedestrian village of Vernazza.
Among the general services are free WiFi throughout the property, heating, private check-in and check-out, and the possibility of staying with pets, allowed with a possible surcharge.
Pensione Sorriso is located in the heart of Vernazza, one of the five villages that make up the Cinque Terre National Park, just 40 metres from the entrance to the protected area and about 300 metres from the village beach. The area is typical of the Ligurian historic centre, made up of colourful houses, narrow alleys and steps leading down to the small harbour, with restaurants and bars just steps from the property’s entrance.
Vernazza train station is just 40 metres away, a huge advantage for those who want to travel along the coast without a car: in a few minutes by train you can reach Monterosso al Mare, Corniglia and the other Cinque Terre villages. Doria Castle overlooks the village just above the pensione, while Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport is about 107 km away, a reference point for those arriving by plane. Several beaches can also be found nearby, including Corniglia beach at 2.3 km and Monterosso beach at 2.5 km.
In spring and summer the best way to experience the area is to walk along the famous Blue Trail, which connects the villages with views over the sea; in the cooler months, panoramic trekking and visits to the villages remain the main activity for those staying in the area.
Guests especially praise the staff, rated almost at the maximum, and the cleanliness of the rooms. The location is also highly appreciated, rated excellent especially by couples. The value for money remains the lowest score, but still solid.
