Cogne at a glance

Cogne sits in a wide green basin dominated by Gran Paradiso, which at 4,061 metres is the only “four-thousander” entirely within Italian territory. The village keeps an authentic soul, with the church of Sant’Orso, the tradition of bobbin lace and a mining past linked to iron extraction, now told by the old magnetite mines that can be visited. In front of the centre lies the great Sant’Orso Meadow (Prato di Sant’Orso), a natural green area in summer and the heart of Nordic skiing in winter. Cogne is in fact one of the Aosta Valley’s cross-country skiing capitals, with around 80 km of trails.
