Location & what to see

The Guardian occupies a 19th-century building in the Castro Pretorio district, a residential area north-east of Roma Termini station characterised by period buildings, small bars and neighbourhood restaurants such as Asmara and Al Grappolo d’Oro, both just a few metres from the entrance. The proximity to Porta Pia, 200 metres away, and to Villa Borghese, reachable with a walk of about 900 metres, makes the area pleasant even for those seeking a less touristy context than the historic centre.

Connections are one of the strong points of the location: the Castro Pretorio metro station (line B) is 350 metres away, while Roma Termini station, with regional trains, Intercity services and connections to Fiumicino airport, is about 700 metres away, a ten-minute walk. Ciampino airport is about 13 km away, and Fiumicino airport about 20 km away. The Baths of Diocletian and Piazza della Repubblica are 700 metres away, while Piazza Fiume, with its shops, is 450 metres away.

From here, it’s easy to plan trips to the major monuments: the Trevi Fountain is 1.6 km away, the Spanish Steps the same distance, and the Colosseum about 2 km away, all reachable on foot or with a short metro ride. In summer, Villa Borghese offers shade and bicycle rental, while in winter the area’s museums and historic churches, such as Santa Maria Immacolata del Rosario 100 metres away, remain a valid alternative for colder days.
