When to go
Madonna di Campiglio is a two-full-season destination. Winter (from December to April, depending on snow cover — to be checked season by season) is the realm of skiing and fashionable life, with famous events such as the Habsburg Carnival; it is high season, so it pays to book well ahead, especially over the holidays, when Campiglio is at its peak. Summer (from June to September) is the season of trekking and mountain huts, with a cool climate and long days among the Brenta Dolomites.
The shoulder seasons need planning: in autumn the woods of Val Rendena light up and the villages are quieter, while in late spring the snow retreats and the summer mountain is not yet fully open, so it’s worth checking openings and connections. Getting there
Madonna di Campiglio and Val Rendena are reached by car from the Brenner motorway (A22): you exit at San Michele all’Adige-Mezzocorona or Trento and continue along Val Rendena, or from Brescia via the Giudicarie valleys. There is no direct railway: the reference station is Trento, well linked by scheduled buses that climb the valley up to Campiglio. The nearest airports are Verona, Bergamo, Milan and Venice.
Once in the area, you get around well with the valley buses and the ski buses that link the villages and the lifts, and with the Trentino Guest Card, often included by the properties, public transport is even better value.
